Sustainability

We manage our resources efficiently and invite those who visit us to reduce their ecological footprint. Water is a vital and scarce resource, especially in our region, so we manage it in a sustainable and balanced way. The flora at our Monte is autochthonous and adapted to the summer heat: Olive trees, Fig trees, Strawberry trees, Aromatic Herbs, Oleander, Indian Fig trees and Succulents.

We are self-sufficient during the day, generating our own electricity from Photovoltaic Panels, taking advantage of the sun's energy, so abundant in the region, almost all year round.
We do not use chemicals and all detergents and amenities used are environmentally friendly.

We give our best for Nature and for our Clients, we inprint in each Visit & Experience: The Generosity Authenticity of the Welcome-Art in the Alentejo, always on a sustainable basis. At the same time, our Mission is also to help in the diffusion and settlement of people and qualified services in our inland territory. We also contribute to greater social justice and equity. We are therefore part of RURAL MOVE - a non-profit organization through which we develop joint actions with the community, always with the aim of taking the Baixo-Alentejo and the region where we are located, Serpa, Moura, Vidigueira, further.
We are for our inland territory, the preservation of its Cultural Heritage, the unique Landscape, Traditions, that we urgently need to preserve and promote.

WHO WE ARE

Burrico D'Orada was born from a girl's dream. In the vacations spent at Monte do Carvalhal, in the company of my Grandfather António Valadas ("Burrico") and my Grandmother Maria (" do Monte"). In the hours spent listening to my grandparents' songs, sung during the hours of daily chores - the pruning of the Olive trees, the bottle-feeding of the lambs, in the feeding of the chickens, the turkeys and the rabbits, in the lighting of the fire in the morning, in the kneading of the Bread, the Popias and the Puff Pastries, in the search for Water in the van with the Mule, the plowing and the sausage making through the sweat of the earth, on the doorstep during the summer nights, the stuffing of the linguíças sausages and the salting of the bacon, the stories of both youth, by the warmth of the fireplace, the winter nights by the light of the lamp, during the sewing of the so wise hands of Grandma Maria. Humble, hard-working people, without a school, forced to become country men and women when they were still children. This is my tribute to them now that they are singing and rocking me from the heights of heaven. At Monte do Carvalhal, "my Monte" as my grandmother called it, having told my grandfather one day that I would like to live here and always be close to you", to which he answered me, when I was only 12 years old: "_ Oh granddaughter, that's nice." And he smiled at me with his blue eyes shining, and his hair white as snow...And he sang to me, just like today, in his heart, at our Monte, where amidst the whispering of the Olive Trees and the warm fragrance of the Fig Trees he planted, over 70 years ago. In this corner of Paradise, where we await for you with open arms, with Soul and a frank smile, in Baixo-Alentejo. I look forward to your visit, and may even challenge you to a Private Tour in our wine region! Come on! What are you waiting for!
