Dark-Sky Starlight Destination
This is an internationally protected and certified area, registered as a Dark Sky reserve, or "Starlight Tourism Destination", which extends over an area of about 10,000 square kilometers in central Alentejo and 40 minutes from our accommodation. The official observatory of the Dark Sky®, located in Cumeada, headquarters of Dark Sky® Alqueva, is equipped with cutting-edge telescopes for solar and astronomical observation, which allow a unique visual experience from planets, to the craters of the Moon, through the deepest sky, with a cosmic journey through the nebulae, galaxies and clusters of stars that rise above one of the best skies in the world The night observatory takes place from Tuesday to Saturday, by appointment, taking into account the phases of the moon and the month of the year for the type of observation desired, the weather conditions and the observatory's schedule availability for the time required.
